Emma and I did a video on the Salem witch trials.The people accused other people for witch craft and they treated them unfairly. Our human right was "were all innocent till proven Guilty" nobody should be blamed for doing something till it is proven. They should of brought them to get help to a hospital or something,they most certainly should have NOT killed them or put them in jail for that matter.

Native American Essay

The native american mascots for sports teams should be changed. The Washington Redskins are a american football team and they have been for 81 years. The owner of the Washington Redskins says his mascot is honouring native americans, Redskins owner Snyder says “The team's first roster in 1933 included four Native American players, and that the name is a proud reminder of its roots and a tribute to American Indians”. But many people don’t agree with Snyder.

More people think that the native american mascots our racist. Suzan Harjo is from the morning star Institute, a Native American rights group in Oklahoma. Harjo says "Depicting us as characters is toxic for Native Americans." The native american people have a right to change the mascot if they want. There is only one race of skin the our using for the team's mascot instead of using all of them.This is why the native american mascots should be changed.  

 

Many people want to change the name of sports teams with with native american names and mascots why because some people think it's racist. Such as the Washington Redskins. They have been pressured and sued to change their name people also people have started a twitter campaign. There are also other teams with names like this such as the Chicago Black Hawks and the Atlanta Braves. “Every time the Atlanta Braves do their tomahawk chop we our no longer successful businessmen doctors soldiers co workers or neighbors says Cynthia Connolly to the fans we only exist in the 1800s as a warrior cult.”  Around the united states there are about 900 sports teams with native american names. Much of the debate over mascots have happened in colleges. The NCAA identified 19 university whose names were hostile or abusive to native Americans. Well most native american tribes applauded the change others fought to keep there name and mascots such as the spirit lake tribe. The spirit lake tribe in North Dakota sued the NCAA to keep the team's name the university of North Dakotas fighting sioux. But in 2011 a law forced the retirement of the team's name. Indian mascots our a tradition for hundreds of schools and sports teams but many people think it's racist and disrespectful to Native Americans.

 Education for Native Americans

The Native Americans struggle to stay in school more than any other group of kids. The teachers are trying to help the kids and this year the teachers are getting trained better.  Minnesota and South Dakota are helping Native American schools have more lessons, one of the lessons is Native American Languages.  Other states in the U.S.A have also been helping Native American schools!

I think that this represents Article 26, Right to Education. This relates to human rights because states are helping the Native Americans get a good education, which is important for all. Native Americans needed an education and people helped. I feel that this is very good because education is important to me. I hope that everyone in the world can experience education and that we all come together to help.

The Washington Redskins face opponents on and off the field. The NFL team the Redskins, people say that there name and Mascot are racist. People say it’s offensive and have targeted the team with Lawsuits. The Redskins have gotten stripped of their trademark. Because of their offensive name and mascot. About 900 sports teams across the U.S still use Native american names. I think sport racism is related to human right number six.

I think this article is related to human right number six. My thoughts are that they should not treat Native Americans that way, because sports teams only have Native American mascots and not other races. Some Native Americans tribes like sports teams having Native American. “ In Florida, the Seminole tribe granted permission to Florida State University to keep using Seminole name.” This supports my thesis because it shows two sides of using Native American names for sport teams.
